How to Enter Measurements

This guide walks you through recording quality control measurements for a part and lot using the Data Input page.

Prerequisites

  • You must be logged in (any user role can enter measurements)
  • At least one Part Number must exist in the system
  • At least one Lot Number must exist for the part you are measuring

Steps to Enter Measurements

1. Navigate to Data Input

From the main navigation, click on Data Input (or go to /data-input).

2. Select a Part Number

Use the Part Number search box to find and select the part you are measuring.

  • Start typing the part number to filter the list
  • Click the correct part to select it
  • The part photo or drawing (if uploaded) will appear as a reference

3. Select a Lot Number

After selecting a part, use the Lot Number dropdown to choose the production lot you are inspecting.

Note: Only lot numbers associated with the selected part will appear in the list.

3a. Select an Inspection Stage (if configured)

If the selected part has Inspection Stages defined, a Inspection Stage dropdown will appear after you pick the lot number.

  • Select the stage that matches where the part is in the production process (e.g. Post-Machining, Post-Coating, Final Inspection)
  • The selected stage is recorded with every measurement in this session
  • If no stages are configured for the part, this dropdown will not appear and measurements are recorded without a stage label

Note: Recording the correct stage is important for comparing pre-coat vs. post-coat dimensions. If you are unsure which stage to select, check with your supervisor before entering measurements.

3b. Select a Gauge (optional)

If any gauges with Current calibration status exist in the system, a Gauge Used dropdown will appear.

  • Select the calibrated gauge you are using to take this set of measurements
  • The gauge ID and calibration status are recorded alongside the measurements, providing traceability to the instrument
  • If no current-status gauges are registered, the dropdown will not appear

Note: Using an overdue (expired) gauge is a nonconformance. If the gauge you need is not in the Current list, stop and notify your supervisor. Do not substitute an uncalibrated instrument.

4. Enter Measurement Values

For each measurement specification (Q1–Q8) defined on the part, enter the measured value in inches.

Column Description
Description The measurement name defined on the part (e.g. Outer Diameter)
Min Minimum acceptable value
Max Maximum acceptable value
Value The value you measured — enter this field
Pass/Fail Automatically calculated based on whether your value falls within Min/Max

Tip: You only need to fill in measurements that have a description defined. Empty/unconfigured measurement slots (Q1–Q8) will be ignored.

5. Submit the Record

Once all required measurement values are entered, click Submit Measurements. The record is saved and will appear in the measurements table below.

  • Green rows indicate a passing record (all measurements within spec)
  • Red rows indicate a failing record (one or more measurements out of spec)

Note: When a measurement record is saved, the current specification tolerances (Min/Max) are frozen with the record. If a part's specifications are updated later, historical measurement records will still show the tolerances that were in effect at the time of inspection. This ensures the validity of your historical conformance data.

Editing a Record

To correct a previously entered measurement:

  1. Locate the row in the measurements table at the bottom of the Data Input page
  2. Click the Edit icon on that row
  3. Update the measurement values
  4. Click Save

Deleting a Record

  1. Locate the row in the measurements table
  2. Click the Delete icon on that row
  3. Confirm the deletion

⚠️ Warning: Deleting a measurement record is permanent and cannot be undone.

Troubleshooting

No parts appear in the Part Number dropdown

No part numbers have been added to the system yet. Ask an admin to add parts via the Part Numbers page.

No lot numbers appear after selecting a part

No lot numbers have been created for this part. Ask an admin to add a lot number on the part's detail page.

A measurement field is greyed out

That measurement slot (Q1–Q8) has no description configured on the part. Only measurements with a description defined will accept input. Contact an admin to update the part's measurement specifications.
